Tomb of Joseph is a feature length documentary that chronicles the story of the rise and fall of a religious experiment on the banks of the Mississippi River in the 1840s. With the discovery of a buried tomb built for Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon religion, the film uncovers a tragic history of mob violence, murder and martyrdom. Hal Cannon’s music and onscreen performance by 3hattrio acts as a Greek Chorus, the ancient theatrical device of using musicians or poets to present an omniscient narrator of the story. Uniquely, the music was composed in advance of production and guided both the shooting and editing of this creative effort.
